President's Message
Dear members,
I hope this message finds you well and you are not yet melting in the Texas summer!
Our next meeting will be held on Monday, June 10th at 7PM at Maggiano’s in North Park Mall, and we’re honored to welcome Dr. Derek Hanes, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology) as our featured speaker. His presentation, “Feline Cardiomyopathy: How to Tell What’s Really in Your Cat’s Heart,” will review the various forms of feline cardiomyopathy and explore the clinical approach to diagnosis, treatment, and evolving future strategies. If you’ve ever struggled with the complexities of feline cardiac cases, this is a talk you won’t want to miss.
Dr. Hanes is a Texas native who earned his DVM from Oklahoma State University in 2013, followed by a rotating internship at Seattle Veterinary Specialists and a postdoctoral fellowship at UC Davis. He completed his cardiology residency with Rocky Mountain Veterinary Cardiology in Denver, earning board certification in 2018. In 2023, he joined CVCA to launch a unique Telecardiology diagnostic service based in Flower Mound, offering advanced cardiac diagnostics to pets who may not otherwise have access to a cardiologist. He also continues to see referral cases in Boulder, Colorado.
We’re also pleased to thank CVCA – Cardiac Care for Pets for sponsoring this meeting. Their support helps us continue to offer high-quality continuing education to our members, and we’re grateful for their partnership.
We look forward to seeing many of you at the meeting - either in person or on Zoom! Let’s continue to learn, grow, and support one another as we work toward a better future for our patients and profession.
